Arlene was born in Yonkers, NY, the daughter of Czechoslovakian immigrants, the late Paul and Mary Martin. She grew up and attended school in Yonkers, and lived most of her adult years in Merrimack, NH, where she raised three children and had many good friends. She was currently living in Nashua, NH with her youngest son, Joe. Over the years, Arlene had worked a number of careers. She worked at AT&T in NY before moving and starting a family. She then various retail jobs. But for Arlene, her most important job was that of a mother.
Arlene had a number of interests and hobbies. She was an avid bowler and participated in several bowling leagues. She enjoyed working in her garden and on DIY home improvements. Arlene volunteered in her community, and particularly loved her time at the Mastricola Elementary School library and as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Arlene remained a loyal and faithful Yankees fan and would bravely cheer against any opposing team of the Red Sox in the stands of their own stadium. She was a friend to all animals, and especially delighted in visiting the Anheuser Busch clydesdales. She always loved puzzles and murder mysteries, and kept her mind sharp after her mobility decreased with crossword puzzles and battling contestants on TV game shows. Above all, what Arlene cherished most was the time shared with her family and friends.
Arlene is the loving mother of Marianne Fernandez & her husband Chris Gypton of Hayden, ID, Peter Fernandez & his wife Kristin Kane of Somerville, MA and Joseph Fernandez of Nashua, NH. She was the sister of Agnes Sanchirico of Ridgefield, CT and the late Clement Martin of Yonkers, NY.
