Helen T. (Mohan) Noonan, a lifelong resident of Burlington passed away at the Woburn Nursing Center on Saturday evening, July 1, 2017. The beloved wife of the late Walter Noonan she was 89 years old.
Helen was born in Woburn. She was one of six children born to the late Thomas and Agnes Mohan. Helen was raised in the Winnmere section of Burlington. At that time there was no elementary or high schools in Burlington so Helen attended St. Charles Elementary and High School in Woburn. After high school she worked for an insurance company in Boston. During World War II Helen and her sisters volunteered at the Bedford V. A. Helen married Walter Noonan in 1955 and was married out of the “original” St. Margaret’s Church in Burlington. She was a devout Catholic and was probably one of the longest parishioners in the church. After they were married Helen returned to her roots back in the Winnmere section of Burlington where they would raise their four children. Helen and Walter were married for 49 years. After their children were grown they enjoyed trips to Maine and New Hampshire.
Helen devoted her life to her husband, her children and her home. It was a role that she cherished. Being a mother and a caregiver was a special gift that Helen had. She loved to look out for and help anyone in need. After raising her own children she was always there to help care for and babysit her grandchildren. She was very proud of all her grandchildren and their accomplishments. Helen was a quiet woman but in her own way was outgoing. She loved family gatherings and catching up with her extended family. Helen was always interested in what was happening in your life. She was an avid reader of the newspaper and watched all the news television shows keeping up on current events. She also enjoyed knitting and you were considered one of the special ones if you received a pair of her hand made mittens.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late Walter Noonan. She was the loving mother of Peter Noonan of Burlington & his partner Margaret Noonan, Joseph Noonan & his wife Darlene of Mason, NH, Ann Cormier & her husband Colin of Burlington, and Laurie Schmidt & her husband Stephan of Farmington, NY.
