Thomas Sotiros

Obituary of Thomas Sotiros

Thomas T. Sotiros, retired President of Bay State Survey, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017. He was 79 years old. Tom was one of 5 children born to Albanian immigrants, Vangjo “Angelo” and Efroseni Sotiros. He grew up in Somerville. He was a graduate of Somerville High School and then attended Northeastern University. For Thomas, family and friends were the center of his universe. He and his 2 brothers, Arthur and Jimmy, started their own business, Bay State Survey, located in Beverly. They worked side by side for over 25 years. They concentrated on residential civil engineering and land surveying. At one point they had 6 additional employees. His employees were treated like family and when it was time to retire, he passed the business onto one of longtime employees knowing it would be in good hands and would care for his clients just as he, Arthur, and Jimmy had for all those years. For Thomas, family was so important, that not only did he work with his brothers, he lived with his parents, brother, and sister most of his life. They had made Burlington their home since 1960. Not having children of his own, Thomas was extremely generous to his four nieces. He always had little gifts and tokens for them and loved being included in their activities and special occasions. Thomas also had a great circle of friends whom he golfed and traveled with. Over his lifetime, he had traveled all the world. He had visited Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and even went on a Safari in Africa. Thomas, along with his brothers, was a longtime Patriots fan. He was there in the stands rooting for his “Pats” long before they started winning Super Bowls. He believed in them when others doubted. For Thomas, seeing the Patriots win five Super Bowls was one of the highlights of his life. Tom was the son of the late Vangjo “Angelo” and Efroseni Sotiros. He was the loyal brother of Robert “James” & his wife Marie of Burlington, Florence of Burlington, Loretta Papadonis & her husband Jack of West Yarmouth, and the late Arthur Sotiros. He was the doting uncle of Sharon Sotiros-Cuddy & her husband Tom of Framingham, Jennifer Sotiros of Burlington, Katie Papadonis of Boston, and Tiffany Rose D’Abbraccio & her husband Ronnie of Burlington. He was the great uncle of Lia and Wesley D’Abbraccio. A Requiem Service will be held at the Forest Hills Cemetery Chapel, 171 Walk Hill St., Boston on Monday, July 17 at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with a burial. Please omit flowers. Memorials may be made in Thomas’s memory to St. George Cathedral, 523 East Broadway, South Boston, MA 02127.
