Obituary of Nicholas Papas

Nicholas Michael Papas, a retired quality control technician and community volunteer passed away on Thursday, July 13 at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center in Medford. He was 93 years old. He most recently had lived in the Plymouth, Roslindale and Dedham communities. Nicholas was born in Boston of the late Michael Nicholas and Karliniki A. (Pascalitis) Papas. He served in the Army after WWII and in the Army Reserves during the Korean War. After leaving the Army he managed a diner, then changed careers to photography, and then again to electronics. He retired as a quality assurance technician at Ferrotec. Mr. Papas was actively involved in the community throughout his life. He was a Boy Scouts leader and served as a foster grandparent in the Boston schools. He also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity helping to build new houses. He was a church elder in the Bourne Methodist Church. He enjoyed square dancing. Mr. Papas was the loving father of Matthew of Brockton, Andy of Billerica, John of Burlington, Chris of Atlanta, Paul of Phoenix, and Rebecca Papas. Brother of Arthur Papas of Cambridge and Anna. Grandfather of PJ, Maggie, Erica, Cassandra, Alexandra, Nick, Stephanie, and Vicky. Also survived by 5 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Sunday, July 16 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at the Harvard-Epworth United Methodist Church, Cambridge at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Nicholas’s name may be made to the Harvard-Epworth United Methodist Church, 1555 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02138.
