Obituary of Cecelia Vivian Bowers
Cecelia Vivian Bowers passed away at Care One in Lexington on Thursday morning, August 3, 2017. The beloved wife of the late Herman Bowers, Vivian would have celebrated her 98th birthday on August 20.
Vivian was born and raised in one of the most picturesque communities in New Brunswick Canada a town called Dalhousie. She was one of ten children born to the late John and Mary Jane Barbour. At the age of 16 Vivian came to the United States to join two of her sisters who were already living here. She lived in Allston and worked as a Secretary and Bookkeeper. In later years she would work as a Secretary for Technical Operations in Burlington. Vivian was a very hard working woman and at one point she was working 3 jobs so they could save for a home which they eventually purchased in Burlington in 1961.
Vivian, her husband Herman and their two children enjoyed traveling throughout New England with one of her favorite destinations being New Hampshire. In later years, after Herman had passed away. she traveled with her dear friend Peggy Bierne. One of Vivian’s most memorable trips was at the age of 85 when she and her son Don took a trip to Canada to visit the family homestead.
In Vivian's later years she was a tireless caregiver to her daughter Judy, who suffered with cancer. She was well into her 80's when she took Judy to chemotherapy treatments, doctor appointments and attended to her daily needs at home.
Vivian was very proud of her two grandchildren Craig and Kerrin and was blessed to see the birth of her three great grandchildren Aaron, Danielle and Chesney. Vivian will be remembered as a strong and loving woman who always put her family first.
Vivian was the beloved wife of the late Herman. She was the loving mother of Donald Bowers of Tewksbury and the late Judith Coleman. Mother-in-law of Bradford Coleman of Burlington. Proud grandmother of Craig Bowers & Kerrin Bowers. Great grandmother of Aaron, Danielle & Chesney. Vivian is predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews both in the United States and Canada. A visitation will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Tuesday, Aug. 8 from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at Noon. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers memorials in Vivian’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
