Obituary of Carol J. Romano

Carol J. (Doherty) Romano, an Insurance Administrator, passed away after a yearlong battle with cancer on Tuesday afternoon, August 15, 2017. She was 64 years old. Carol was born in Medford, the daughter of the late Edward and Gertrude Doherty. She grew up in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School. In junior high and high school, she was a friend of a fellow classmate, Joe Romano. They reconnected on her 21st birthday. Their relationship blossomed and they married 2 years later. They made their home in Medford for many years. Carol was active in St. Clement Church in Somerville where she taught religious education and was a member of marriage preparation and Baptism preparation teams. Carol went to school for nursing and also had her Real Estate and Insurance licenses. She started her insurance career at Garrett-Lynch Insurance in Somerville. She worked their until she became a mother. She remained home with her children while they were young. She then went back to work in the insurance field at Norcross & Leighton Insurance. As with many insurance companies, they merged with C.J. McCarthy Insurance, which later became HUB International. Carol had a great bond with her coworkers and a wonderful relationship with clients whom she served for over the 20 years. Over the years, Carol also worked with her husband in his business, Romano Management. Carol life revolved around her home and family. She moved to Burlington in 1991. Her home was often the gathering place for her family, friends, and neighbors. She hosted holidays, cook outs, pool parties, and other social events. Her home was a gathering spot for her children’s friends. Carol’s home was an extension of herself. The furniture, decorations, design, and ambiance were meticulous throughout. She could have been an interior designer. She and her husband, Joe, shared 41 years together. They were a married couple, but they were also best friends. They cherished being parents and raising their 2 children, Christina and Joe, Jr. They enjoyed time together going on car rides to Rockport, Manchester By the Sea, and countless other destinations. They both enjoyed walking and going into Boston and exploring the city as if they were tourists. They enjoyed evening walks around Horn Pond in Woburn as well. Carol loved being a mother and she was so proud of each of her children. She was so happy to see her daughter, Christina, get married in March. She loved all the planning and excitement leading up to the wedding. As a mother, the wedding day was one of her happiest and most memorable days ever. She leaves her family and friends with endless memories fill with love and kindness. Carols was the beloved wife of Joseph P. Romano. She was the loving mother of Christina O’Brien & her husband Daniel of Billerica and Joseph Romano, Jr. of Burlington. She was the sister of Barbara Diozzi & her late husband James of Saugus and the late Elizabeth “Betsy” Doherty and Roberta Doherty and sister-in-law of Joanne & Philip Catanzano of Wakefield, Paula Romano of Stoneham, Harry Jr. & Maria Romano of Medford and James & Heather Romano of Westford. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral from the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt., 128/95 Woburn side) on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
