Obituary of George S. Marshall

George S. Marshall, a man devoted to his family and faith, passed away, after a courageous battle with cancer, at his home on Saturday evening, August 19, 2017. The beloved husband of 51 years of Joyce (Lindquist) he was 77 years old. George was born in Brockton. He was the son of the late G. Kenneth and Blanche Marshall. He was raised and educated in Easton. He was a 1958 graduate of Oliver Ames High School in North Easton. As a child, he was very involved in the Boy Scouts which was an important part of his childhood. George went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Bridgewater State University and his Master’s Degree in Education from Salem State College. It was while attending Bridgewater that he would meet his future wife, Joyce Lindquist. They married in 1966 and settled in Woburn in the home that once belonged to Joyce’s grandparents. George was a teacher of chemistry and physics at Burlington High School from 1966 – 1985. He also was self-employed at Northwood Sales Company in Woburn. At the end of his career he worked as a truck driver for Sheila Marie Imports in Wilmington. George was a true outdoorsman, and was always prepared. George, Joyce and their children enjoyed camping and canoeing in Fryeburg Maine. He was an expert marksman. He was a longtime member of the Massachusetts Rifle Association in Woburn which is America’s oldest active gun club. He shared his interest in marksmanship with others and was a Youth Instructor for marksmanship and gun safety for many years. George’s faith was an important part of his life and he was a longtime and active member of the Church of the Open Bible. He was on the Finance Committee, a Trustee, and a member of the Tape Ministry. George loved to cook and served many roast beef dinners over 40 years for the Fishers of Men Ministry. George’s family was most important to him. He had a wonderful 51 years of marriage to his wife Joyce. He was a proud father to his four children and his greatest joy was his six grandchildren. George will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle to many nieces and nephews. George was the beloved husband of Joyce (Lindquist). He was the loving father of Jennifer Grossi & her husband Scott of Woburn, Amanda Marshall of Woburn, David Marshall & his wife Ann of Haverhill and Calvin Marshall & his wife Lea of Hampstead, NH. Proud grandfather of Joshua Grossi, Robert & Kristen Autenzio, Tyler Ballard and Violet & Luke Marshall. Brother of Timothy Marshall of Middleboro, Madeline Carlson of Easton and the late Priscilla Copeland and Shirley Holbrook. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Open Bible, 3 Winn St., Burlington on Friday, August 25 at 3 p.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorials in George’s name may be made to the Abundant Life Christian School Scholarship Fund, 173 Church St., Wilmington, MA 01887.
