Carmella Marcantonio, a homemaker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Saturday morning, August 26, 2017 at the age of 92. Carmella was born and raised in Waltham. She was the daughter of Italian immigrants, the late Peter and Assunta Russo. She married Daniel Marcantonio shortly after he returned from serving in the Marines during World War II. Her home was always filled laughter and quick wit. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Her sons remember how she would send them out to pick blueberries and how she would use their harvest to make the most delicious blueberry muffins and bread. Her upside down pineapple cake was one of her most celebrated desserts. In her leisure time she enjoyed crocheting and going to Bingo with her girlfriends. Carmella loved to shop for clothes. She was always on the hunt for bargains on the latest and most stylish clothing. She loved to entertain her family and friends and sitting around the dining room table playing cards. In her retirement years, she enjoyed wintering in Hollywood, Florida. Carmella was the beloved wife of over 65 years of late Daniel J. Marcantonio. She was the loving mother of Daniel Marcantonio & his wife Joyce of Billerica and Richard Marcantonio & his wife Linda of Merrimac. She was the sister of Mary Verducci of Burlington, the late Jean Corr, Raymond “Red” Russo and Jimmy Russo. She was the proud grandmother of Alysha, Anthony, and Jodianne Marcantonio.
