Obituary of Karl Blogg

Karl August Wilhelm Blogg passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, September 30, 2017. He was 87 years old. Karl was born in the town of Baarn in the Netherlands. He was the son of the late Herman and Helena Blogg. The youngest of nine children, he grew up and was educated in Jakarta, Indonesia. He enlisted in the Royal Dutch Merchant Marines where he served for 10 years. He quickly rose in the ranks earning his Commanding Officer rank at the age of 27. During his time in the service he married his wife Lorette on November 24, 1954. In November of 1961, seeking better opportunities, they immigrated to the United States, eventually settling in Burlington in 1968. While working full time and raising his family, he earned both an Associates Degree in Electronic Engineering and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from Northeastern University. The latter was attained with honors in 1974. Karl worked as a Department Head of the Quality Control at George W. Moore Company in Waltham for 27 years. When not working or studying, he enjoyed travelling and camping with his family. Karl loved being a part of the community, volunteering with the Boy Scouts for several years. He especially enjoyed cheering and supporting all the Burlington High School Sports. It did not make a difference whether his children were on a team or even played that sport. Karl would attend both home and away games and had a special affinity for the basketball teams. This love of sports extended to UMass Minutemen football as well as the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Patriots. It wasn’t uncommon for Karl to have the television playing one game while his radio was playing another, just so he didn’t miss a single play. Upon retirement, Karl became an avid walker and could frequently be seen walking all around his neighborhood. He also walked daily with his wife at the Burlington Mall prior to opening in the morning. They made many friends here and enjoyed being a part of the Friday morning walkers’ Breakfast Club. Karl was not one to sit idle when at home. He was always puttering around his home or yard. Being an engineer, he thought he could fix everything, which in most cases was true. He especially loved spending time with his four grandchildren. In addition to being the beloved husband of Lorette Blogg, Karl was the loving father of William Blogg and his companion Renee Kimball of Tilton, NH and Nancy Blogg of Fiskdale, MA. He was the proud grandfather of Bethany & Nathan Blogg and Logan & Veronica Melican. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Sunday, Oct. 1 from 2-4 p.m. and will conclude with a funeral service beginning at 4 p.m.
