Obituary of Mica Humphreys

Mica M. Humphreys, a woman of family, faith, and community, passed away after a long struggle with cancer at her home surrounded by her family on Monday morning, March 26, 2012. She was 80 years old. Mica was born in Medford, the daughter of Italian immigrants, the late Anthony and Frances Caldarone. She grew up in Medford and Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. Mica worked as a Librarian in the Burlington School Department for over 20 years. During those years she worked at Fox Hill Elementary School, Marshall Simonds Middle School, and Burlington High School. She was an active member of the community and a member of the Burlington Historical Society. She was an active parishioner at Saint Margaret’s Church. She enjoyed her many friends, exercise classes that were followed with a stop at the coffee shop with her girlfriends. Because her husband was a diehard Boston College alumni and sports fan, she was one as well with season tickets to BC Football and Hockey games. She was a talented cook and enjoyed working around her flower gardens. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends and cherished the family vacations on Cape Cod. What made Mica special was her warmth, humility, kindness, and devotion to her family and friends. One could only help but feel loved and appreciated when in her presence. She was a selfless mother, always placing her children’s needs above her own. She opened her home, especially her kitchen, to everyone. She was always there with a kind word or a lending hand for all her family. She was a caregiver to all her grandchildren as they grew up, attending every sporting event, dance recital and theater production. She could not have been any prouder of all of her children and grandchildren. During her illness, she never lost her grace and dignity. Her loss is difficult to accept, but her spirit will live on in her family’s hearts. Mica was the beloved wife of Carl F. Humphreys for 52 years. She was the loving mother of Robyn Grasso & her husband Jim, Carl F. Humphreys III & his wife Valerie, and Janet Giacchino & her husband Richard all of Burlington. She was the sister of Arthur Caldarone of Burlington and Frank Caldarone of Toronto, Canada. She was the proud grandmother of Bradley & Jaclyn Jensen, Jill, Kristin, Michael, & Steven Humphreys, Alexandra & Andrew Grasso, and Janelle & Nicholas Giacchino. Mica is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, March 29 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
