Obituary of William Gallagher
William Gallagher, who owned his own construction company, passed away at his home with his family at his bedside, on Friday night, March 29, 2012. He was 77 years old. Bill was born in Boston, the son of the late James and Josephine Gallagher. He grew up in Somerville and Arlington and was a graduate of Arlington High School. In high school, he excelled in Track and Field and football. It was while playing football that he met a pretty cheerleader, Marcia Faulkner, who he eventually would marry. They settled in Burlington in 1962 to raise their family. Bill was an extremely talented carpenter and could do almost anything in the construction field. He had a strong work ethic, pride in his workmanship, and would never give in to a challenge. He was a master carpenter, built custom homes and additions, and remodeled kitchen and bathrooms. He worked all around the Burlington, Billerica, Concord and North Andover area, where his reputation for treating his customers right perpetuated his business. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and his skills to a family member or friend.
Bill put in long workdays, but in his leisure time he was an avid golfer and was a past member of the Hillview Country Club in North Reading. He was a big sports fan and he loved watching old movies, especially westerns. He loved vacations on Cape Cod with his family and in Las Vegas with his brothers. He worshipped his loving wife, Marcia, and missed her terribly since her passing in 2004. He was a caring and proud father and grandfather, who was always there to help his family in his own special way.
Bill was the beloved husband of 51 years of the late Marcia C. (Faulkner) Gallagher. He was the loving father of Robert Gallagher & his wife Karen of Billerica, Donna Cox & her husband Kevin of Bedford, Doreen Gallagher & her husband William Riley of West Roxbury, Marcie Murphy & her husband Timothy of Colorado Springs, CO, and predeceased by James and Eddie Gallagher. He was the brother of Jack Gallagher of NV, Ann Millburg of Hingham, Paul Gallagher of Somerville, the late James, Frank, and Richard Gallagher. He was also survived by 10 grandchildren.
