Obituary of John D Caruso

John D. Caruso, a extremely talented welder/brazer at Ferrite Microwave Technologies, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, October 25, 2017. He was 85 years old. John was born in Newton, Massachusetts. He was one of six children born to Gildo and Margaret Caruso. He grew up in Newton and was a graduate of Newton High School. He then served in the Air Force during the Korean War for 4 years. He held the rank of Airman First Class and was a member of the 49th Fighter Squadron. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. During his military service, he married Marjorie Fahey and they eventually settled in Burlington in 1962. John was extremely proud of his military service and regularly attended the 49th Squadron’s reunions. His last reunion was last month, held at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome New York. John was a specialized welder/brazer. Over the years he had worked at Alpha Industries, MA/COM, and Ferrite Company in Nashua, NH. He extremely knowledgeable and skilled and very much respected by his peers and employers. He worked on fabricating parts for airplanes, spacecraft, microwaves, and any other part that needed to be fabricated by hand. With the onset of computer guided manufacturing, welders with his skill set have become a lost art. John worked into his 80’s partly because he loved his job and coworkers, but also because there was no one who could perform the work that John did. John was extremely active in the youth sports of Burlington. He coached youth hockey and Babe Ruth baseball. He supported all his children in their sports and spent his days shuttling them from rink to rink or field to field. He loved sharing his passion for sports with not only his sons, but the youths of Burlington. Not that he didn’t have enough on his plate, he also co-owned the Burlington Skate Shop on Cambridge Street with his good friend, Jack Mellen. When his grandchildren started to play sports, he was once again on the sidelines and stands cheering, encouraging, and coaching. John was an avid golfer. He played regularly at the Patriot Golf Course in Bedford as well as numerous other courses and tournaments with friends and relatives. John’s unexpected passing is a bit of a shock, but he was a great role model for his family and leaves his family with wonderful memories, a strong foundation, and a life time of unconditional love. John was the beloved husband of 62 years of Marjorie (Fahey) Caruso. He was the loving and supportive father of Stephen Caruso & his wife Ellen of Peabody, John Caruso & his wife Lynne of Pelham, NH, Karlene (Caruso) Thibodeau of Derry, NH & her significant other Jim Giguere, Larry of Gorham, ME & his significant other Kim Wilkins, and the late Theodore “Ted” Caruso. He was the father-in-law of the late Norman Thibodeau.
