Obituary of Joseph Robert Barrett
Joseph Robert Barrett, a retired bookkeeper, passed away at Care One in Lexington on Sunday morning, November 5, 2017. He was 84 years old.
Bob was born in St. John Newfoundland Canada. He was one of two children born to the late Wendell and Sarah Barrett. At the age of 12 the Barrett family came to the United States. They lived in Everett for 25 years and eventually moved to Burlington in the early 1970’s. He graduated from Bentley College with an Associate’s Degree. Bob was a veteran of the Korean War serving his country in the United States Air Force. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He went on to have a long career as a bookkeeper at Ames Safety Envelope in Somerville retiring after 50 years of service to the company.
Bob was an avid Boston sports fan with baseball being his favorite sport. He enjoyed traveling and visited Las Vegas, Canada and many other destinations within the United States. Bob kept up-to-date on the current political climate in the world and always enjoyed a good conversation about politics. He was a frequent visitor to Barnes and Noble and also looked forward to his Friday morning visits to Bickfords in Burlington.
Bob was the beloved son of the late Wendell and Sarah Barrett. He was the loving brother of Elizabeth Barrett of Burlington. A visitation will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 10:00 a.m. Followed by Funeral Services at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
