Obituary of Ida V Scutellaro
Ida “Edie” Scutellaro, was a very caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to all. She passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 24. She was 91 years old. Edie was born in Boston, one of six children born to Italian immigrants, Alfonso and Rosa Capozzi. She grew up in the family home in East Boston which was filled with Italian food, traditions, values, and culture. She learned at early age that one’s world revolves around family and the kitchen. She learned to be a seamstress in trade school. She worked full time after high school sewing and in her later years sewed as more as a hobby and convenience for family and friends. She married her husband Frank in 1948 and they settled in Burlington in 1955. Burlington was just a small farming town that saw the biggest population explosion in Massachusetts starting in 1955 until 1965. The town was growing and new retail, commercial, and industry soon followed. Edie took advantage of the new opportunities and went to work for Computervision. She remained with the company for 25 years retiring as a supervisor in the Inspection Department.
Edie was a vibrant, outgoing, kind, and loving woman right up until her final days. It might be odd to say that a 91 year old had died unexpectedly, but it was true. Edie had just cooked and hosted her family for Thanksgiving 1 day prior. She was still was driving and was a regular at the exercise classes at the Council on Aging. Her reaching the age of 100 was not something wished for, but expected. She was always on the go. She was an avid card and Mahjong player and took up painting at 82. Edie loved attending the Senior’s socials, events, trips, and activities and had traveled across the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe. And boy did she love to cook. She followed many of the recipes learned from her mother. Christmas Eve she hosted the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Her artichokes and homemade raviolis were family favorites. She was her grandson, Nic’s, personal Chef. She would cook him dinners enough for the week and deliver them to him. The only thing she asked for in return was that he send back her Tupperware! Some have joked that he hasn’t got married yet, because he can’t find a woman who would ever treat him better than his “Grandma Edie”. She was that way with all her family and friends. She always wanted to be helpful, make people smile, and bring a little happiness to their day. She was truly a special angel and someone who has touched the hearts of all her family, friends, and neighbors.
Edie was the beloved wife of the late Francis T. Scutellaro. She was the loving mother of Marie Handley & her husband Harlan of Hudson, NH and Vero Beach, FL and Louis Scutellaro & his wife Denise of North Andover. Edie was the proud grandmother of Nic Scutellaro of Boston. She was the sister of Alfonso Capozzi of Venice, FL and the late Josie Dunn, Connie Mendolia and Berry & Tony Capozzi.
