Obituary of Thomas H Miller

Thomas H. Miller, Jr., owner of THM Equipment, passed away after a 6-month battle with cancer on Thursday, November 30, 2017. He was 62 years old. Tom was the second oldest of 8 children born to Dorothy and Thomas Miller. Tom grew up in Arlington and was a 1973 graduate of Arlington High School. He furthered his education at Massachusetts Bay Community College. He had a strong work ethic and a keen sense for business which led to him starting his company, THM Equipment, 20 years ago. He specialized in outfitting warehouses with all the conveyor and storage systems and equipment necessary for the project. He also handled all the peripheral projects and jobs including: demolition, breaking down, upgrading, repurposing, and sales of new and used equipment. He worked on projects from New Jersey to Maine. He had the ability to look at the needs of his clients and develop the best utilization of a facility, but at the same time keeping a watchful eye on costs. It was for these reasons that his clients trusted his guidance and made him so well respected in his profession. Tom was a person who loved people. He had numerous circles of friends from work, golf, cards, boating, neighbors, and family. He seamlessly intermingled with all these groups. He was a long-time member of the Tewksbury Elks where he enjoyed their socials and playing cards with his buddies. He was an avid golfer and a long-time member of the Sandy Burr Country Club. He was one of those elite few golfers who had the skill and good fortune to get a hole in one! Tom enjoyed spending many summer days on his boat at the Belgrade Lake region entertaining his family and friends. They called him “Chipper the Skipper.” He would take the kids tubing, swimming, and for rides all around the lake. He divided the children into “Seal Teams 1, 2, and 3.” Their rank depended on age, skill level and, of course, their helpfulness to the Skipper. Tom had a love of cars. He owned an antique Cadillac which he enjoyed driving around town and in parades. He loved testing his luck at the casinos in Connecticut, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas. He traveled with his wife, family and friends to Europe, California, Florida, and numerous other warm weather destinations. Tom truly had the “Gift of Gab.” He never went anywhere without meeting an old friend or adding a new friend. As much as he was a talker, he was also a doer. He would help anyone. Armed with his trucks from work, he was his family and friends go to person whenever someone moved. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, move that heavy furniture, or any other task someone might need assistance with. His genuine warmth, outgoing personality, and huge heart make his passing so difficult for his family and friends to accept. What gives them solace is that Tom’s memory and legacy is one of love and kindness. Tom was the beloved husband of Janet (Gibbs) Miller. They have been a couple for over 40 years and married for 33 years. He was the father of John Miller. He was the son of Dorothy K. Miller of Arlington and the late Thomas H. Miller, Sr. He was the brother of Julie DiSciullo of Westborough, M. Marlene Powers of Arlington, Jeffrey Miller of St. Charles, LA, Stephanie Maher of Lunenburg, Craig Miller of Arlington, Eileen McLaughlin of Billerica, and Paul Miller of Stoneham. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (exit 34 off Rt. 95/128, Woburn side) on Saturday, December 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will conclude with a funeral service at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
