Obituary of William J. Martin
William J Martin Jr, a retired business owner passed away on December 6, 2017. He was 98 years old.
Bill, a longtime resident of Arlington, Wolfeboro NH, Beverly Hills Fl, and Plymouth Ma, was born in East Boston and lived in Lynn in his early years. He was one of four children born to the late Lucy and William Martin. Bill graduated from The GE Apprentice course and worked as a foreman for GE building aircraft engines during WWll. He became an expert in carbide and parlayed that into his own business, Proctor and Martin in Arlington in the mid 50’s and built it into a thriving business. He retired in 1981.
Bill was an avid Boston sports fan with the Red Sox as his favorite team. He was a season ticket holder for a number of years and waited patiently for them to win the first championship in 2004.
Bill was the loving husband to Jane (Wall) Martin for 74 years. Together they had seven children; William lll and his wife Joy of Peabody, Jim of Andover, Jane Blaney and her husband Bob of Bedford NH, Mary Hartwell and her husband Tom of Andover, Patti Genereux and her husband Guy from Chelmsford, John and his wife Sara from Burlington, and Terri Kowalyk and her husband Mike from Chelmsford. He also survived by 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Joseph and Edward (Honey) Martin and Maureen Conrad.
