George was born in Medford and grew up in Revere and Medford. He was a graduate of Medford High School and then enlisted serve his country in the Marines during the final months of World War II. He earned the rank of Corporal. He was proud to served his country and be a Marine. He served as a Commander of the Marine Corp league and represented the Marine Corp League at Veteran ceremonies, parades, fundraisers, and socials. He was also a member of the Masons.
George was a man devoted to his family as well as his community. He was blessed to have 8 children, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. His children remember summers spent camping as a family at Kezar Lake in Maine. He made numerous trips to Alaska to visit with his daughter. They would often tease him about his demeanor. A family joke was that his favorite saying was “Quack Quack” led to collection of ducks. He also collected stamps and coins. His other interest was that of vegetable, flower gardening, and a love for trains. He's part of the dwindling age group who grew up in the United States during the deprivation of the Great Depression, and then went on to fight in World War II, as well as those whose productivity within the war's home front made a decisive material contribution to the war, and returned to their homes and served others and their community not for the fame or recognition, but rather it was the “right thing to do”! That was George. He place his family, community, and country first.
