Obituary of Dorothy Isabella Bowser
Saying good-bye to a wonderful mom and very special person.
When I think of early memories of my mother, I always think of someone who was very happy and always on the go, with lots of energy. She seemed to know everyone and could carry on a conversation easily. She smiled a lot, and people would smile right back and it would always seem to evolve into a very comfortable atmosphere.
She loved to garden, and, she was very good at it. We had incredibly large, healthy beds of marigolds that people would often stop and comment on. They were beautiful! She also had several rose bushes and lilac bushes that became backgrounds for many photographs over the years. On rainy days she would always have a jigsaw puzzle or a board game to keep us engaged.
Dorothy also enjoyed the movies and would often take my sister and me to an afternoon matinee, followed by a trip to Brighams for ice cream. She made, even going to the grocery store, a fun adventure, by assigning us different items to locate or tasks like grinding the coffee beans. She knew the people who worked in the stores on a 1st name basis, and they all knew our mother.
Most of our close friends in school would be at our house, almost as much as their own, primarily because of the environment my mom created. Always interested, always caring, always a class lady! She was awesome!!
She never got a driver’s license, yet she would go anywhere on the MBTA at a moment’s notice. Dorothy decided to further her education in her mid-40s and went back school for an associate degree, which made the whole family very proud of her. She was the oldest in her classes, but that was no obstacle. She then landed a job with the Division of Mass. State Colleges, which she eventually retired from with a pension.
In closing, we just want to say - it has been a fabulous journey! We won the lottery when were blessed to have you as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend for life. Thanks for everything!
