I had come to know Helen about 6.5 years ago when I started working in patient transport at Winchester Hospital. Because the transporters and volunteers all shared the same office, I had come to know Helen as I used to work on Tuesdays. Helen was truly a very special person, and a dedicated volunteer at Winchester Hospital. She faithfully donated her Tuesdays to help out in the Volunteer Office, where she was loved and respected for her hard work. Helen and I would often have conversations about birds, a hobby that she and I both shared. Helen, however, had a lot more experience in bird watching than I, so I would learn about birds from her. I always enjoyed seeing Helen on those Tuesdays, and when Helen became ill, I would have the pleasure of being the transporter to take her for various tests, etc., which would give us time to talk about birds, the Red Sox, and other topics of interest during our interactions. Although very ill, Helen's very pleasant and unassuming personality would shine through.
Helen will sorely be missed by me, as well as her volunteer colleagues on Tuesdays here at Winchetser.
