Obituary of Margaret Hickox

Margaret M. Hickox, a woman who gave of herself to her family and those in need, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua, NH on Sunday morning, September 4, 2011. She was 74 years old. Margaret was born in Somerville, the daughter of Irish immigrants, the late John and Ellen Murray. She grew up in Somerville and was a graduate of St. Clement High School. Margaret made her home in Burlington where she raised her sons and had recently made her home in Nashua, NH. Margaret spent her life caring for others in her own special way. She was a single mother raising and providing for her 4 sons. She worked hard to balance work with motherhood. She supported her sons in their interest and activities and was their biggest fan at their football, hockey, and baseball games. She also gave them a wonderful model of unselfish devotion to those who you love. Her concern for others was prevalent in her career choice. She worked for many years in the Massachusetts Department of Social Services and as a caretaker at Catholic Charities. In later years she also worked as a caretaker for the elderly. She truly made a difference in the lives of many in need. In her leisure time, she cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling all around the United States and abroad, with Ireland being one of her favorite destinations. She will be remembered for her concern for others, delightful sense of humor and her love of family. Margaret was the beloved mother of John “Jack” Hickox of Nashua, NH, Kevin Hickox & his wife Jill of Burlington, Gregory Hickox & his wife Lynne of Bedford, and Thomas Hickox of Malden. She was the sister of Catherine Murray of Woburn, Sylvia Moulden o & her husband Donald of N. Andover, John “Jack” Murray of Somerville, Thomas Murray & his wife JudyAnn of Barnstable, and Ellen Fennell of N. Andover & her late husband Barry. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Nicolle, Danielle, Gregory, Courtney, Caileigh, Michael, Brett, Brenden, and Sammy. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
