Obituary of James Algeri

James P. Algeri, a retired Belmont Firefighter, passed away after a tragic accident while walking near his vacation home in Florida, on Wednesday morning April 18, 2012. The beloved husband of 41 years of Mary (Sacca) he was 65 years old. Jim was born in Waltham. He was the son of the late Anthony and Helen Algeri. He was raised and educated in Verona PA. Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam Era serving his country in the United States Navy. He was proud of his service to his country and was a member of the American Legion Millican-Mackenzie Post 273 in Burlington where he served as the past Post Commander. He was also a member of the K of C in Burlington where he had many friends. Jim and Mary settled in Burlington where they raised their three children. He coached little league when his son Joey was younger. Jim was looking forward to attending the graduation of son Joey from college in May. He enjoyed watching his children and in later years his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was proud of his Mandy who is a Second Grade Elementary School Teacher. Jim was proud of his three children and all their accomplishments. Jim was an EMT & Firefighter in Belmont retiring in 2006. Growing up in the Pittsburgh area Jim was a big Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. He enjoyed camping, Cape Cod and watching movies. Jim enjoyed his retirement years golfing, fishing and taking walks on the beach. He loved spending time in Florida during his retirement where his two grandchildren lived. He enjoyed taking them to theme parks, fishing and just being together. James was the beloved husband of 41 years of Mary (Sacca). He was the loving father of Stacey & Drew Smith of Valrico, FL, Mandy Algeri of Los Angeles, CA, and Joseph Algeri of Burlington. Brother of Steven Algeri & his wife Susan of RI and the late Edward Algeri. Devoted grandfather of Sawyer & Sydney Smith. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt.128, Woburn side) on Sunday, April 22 from 3-6:30 p.m. concluding with Funeral Services at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials in Jim’s name may be made to NE Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108
