Obituary of Michael James Queen
Michael James Queen, a retired roofer and truckdriver, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday morning, February 20, 2018. He was 65 years old. Michael was born in Winchester, the son of Frank and Bernadette Queen. He was a lifelong resident of Burlington. He was a graduate of Burlington High School, Class of 1970. He was an outdoorsman and was never afraid of hard work. He owned his own roofing company, “Queen Roofing” for many years. He was strong as an ox and easily carried the roofing bundles up to the roofs and was fearless about working on roofs with extreme heights or steep pitches. For him, the job had to get done and someone needed to do it. He ended his career working as a paving truck driver for Milinazzo Paving and Middlesex Paving. It was nice to be on the ground, but still a hot and strenuous profession.
Michael was a person who loved the outdoors and had an activity for each season of the year. He had a camp on Lake Winnisquam for the past 30 years. It was a simple place where he introduced his love for the outdoors to his children. He was an avid boater and fisherman. Every morning he was out on his boat at 5 a.m. fishing. He was always on the hunt for that elusive “Big One”. Even if he caught the “Big One”, he was a catch and release type of fisherman. In the winter, he enjoyed snowmobiling with his family, friends, and neighbors. He also enjoyed tinkering with cars. Michael was a bit of a prankster and many a family and friend were the victims of mischievous deeds. He was always there for his family. He was thrilled when his daughter purchased a home on the lake and having the opportunity to share his love of the outdoors with his grandchildren. He also had a strong father/son bond with his son Scott who has lived with him for 35 years. His family supported him during his illness and in the end worked to make sure he had his final wish of being able to die at home in the house he built.
Michael was the loving father of Scott Queen of Burlington and Angela Pollard & her husband Ernie of Tyngsboro. He was the proud grandfather of Cassidy & Vincent Pollard. He was the brother of Bernadette Gilet of Chelmsford and brother-in-law of the late Richard Gilet. He was also the uncle of Patrice & Michelle Gilet, and great-uncle of Zachary & Travis Ricardo.
