Obituary of Sandra L DiTucci

Sandra L. “Sandy” DiTucci, of Billerica, formerly of Billerica, April 17, 2018. She was an Army Veteran, Chef, and family person. Sandy was born in Haydenville, Ohio. She was one of 12 children born to Fred and Cora Waugh. She grew up in Corbin, Kentucky and Logan, Ohio. After graduating high school, she enlisted in the US. Army. During her 3 years in the Army, she was stationed in the 75th Station Hospital in Stuttgart, Germany. When Sandy arrived at the train station in Stuttgart, a young soldier, Pat DiTucci was waiting their to pick her up and bring her to barracks. Pat later admitted that he was mesmerized by her beauty. The two soldiers made some pleasant conversation during the ride and that was it. The next day, Sandy was trying to find her way in the maze of corridors in the hospital and by chance her driver of the day prior, Pat, met her and helped her find her way. The soldiers started a friendship which evolved to a courtship. After they were both discharged from the Army, she moved to Woburn. They were married on May 3, 1964 in a huge Italian wedding celebration that went on into the wee hours of the morning. That romance and spirit remained with the couple for the next 64 years. Sandy spent much of her working career as a chef/cook. She first worked in the DiTucci family business which was Joe D’s restaurant which was located in Woburn and Burlington. She then went to work in the corporate cafeterias of Raytheon and Thermo Electronics. Sandy’s first priority in life was that of her family. She was a woman of simple means. Her family could always go to her for guidance and assistance. Sandy’s goal was be there for her family and make them happy. Family dinners and gatherings, vacations to Old Orchard, Maine, shopping, or simply watch television as a family were moments that Sandy cherished. When she became a grandmother, she routinely helped with their upbringing and assisting her children. She would get grandchildren off to school and pick them at the end of the day, take them shopping, baby sit, and any other way she could lend a helping hand. Her family loved her cooking with her specialty being clam chowder and Pasta Faggioli. Her family was always amazed how she could take all sorts of random ingredients and create something delicious. As her illness worsened, it was her family’s opportunity to return their love for her as they comforted and cared for her at home as she wished. Sandy was the beloved wife of Patrick “Pat” DiTucci. She was the loving mother of Corena DiTucci of Woburn, Cheryl DiTucci & her wife Robin of Billerica, Christa Jessop of Billerica and Patrick DiTucci & his wife Gloria of Bellingham.
