Obituary of Donald H. DeMole
Donald H. DeMole, a retired Assistant Director for GCA Vacuum Industries, passed away after years of suffering from Alzheimer’s disease on Thursday morning, May 24, 2018. He was 85 years old.
Don was born in Boston. He was the son of Attilo and Frances DeMole. He grew up and was educated in Dorchester. After graduating from Boston Latin High School, Don enlisted in the US Marines during the Korean War. He served for 3 years and held the rank of Sergeant. He was very proud to be a Marine and to have served his country. After his military service, he went to Northeastern University where he earned a degree in engineering. He went to work at GCA Vacuum Industries in Somerville in 1958. GCA manufactured vacuum metallurgical processing equipment. He started as an electrical designer in 1958. He was promoted to Senior Project Manager and left GCA as their Assistant Director. He ended his career working at Elatech Co. in Wilmington.
Don had been a resident of Burlington since 1962. He was a longtime parishioner of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Burlington. He served as a Deacon in the church for a number of years. He was a member of several bowling leagues during his younger years. Most of Don’s energy, resources, and time was spent supporting and caring for his family. He cherished all the family birthdays, holidays, and countless other important events and activities in his children and grandchildren’s lives. He was their biggest fan and follower. He was so proud of each one of his family for their accomplishments in hockey, baseball, softball, field hockey, and even Judo. He was there for them when they were just learning, the early morning games, and when they participated in local, national, and international tournaments. He relished in their successes and was there to encourage them in their missteps and disappointments. Don’s greatest joy was being a part of his family’s lives and seeing them happy.
Don was the former husband of the late Nellie Pate Ward. He was the loving father of Linda Cerullo & her husband Charles of Tewksbury and Dana DeMole of Virginia. He was the brother of Gary DeMole & his wife Joan of Weymouth and the late Robert DeMole. He was the brother-in-law of Mary DeMole of Burlington. He was the proud grandfather of Daniel Abbott, Jr. & his wife Shana of Tewksbury, Laura Abbott & her companion Chris Rose of Billerica, and Derek DeMole & Brett DeMole both of Virginia. He was the great grandfather of Alexis Pate Carroll, Daniel John Abbott, and Henry James Abbott. Stepfather Grandfather of Chris Cerullo & his wife Jayme of Billerica, Danielle Ballou & her husband Michael of Billerica, and Michelle Flaherty & her husband Jack of Burlington. Step grandfather of Chiara & Darianna Cerullo, Michael & Gianna Ballou, and Tyler & Jaydn Flaherty. Proud Uncle of nieces and nephews.
Relatives may visit with the family at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Tuesday, May 29 from 11 a.m. to Noon. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at Noon. Services will conclude with a burial with military honors at Pine Haven Cemetery in Burlington.
