Obituary of Madeline A. Marlene'' Dooley
Madeline A. “Marlene” (Cincotta) Dooley, a resident of Burlington for 64 years, passed away at her home, with her family by her side, on Friday evening, May 25, 2018. The beloved wife of 64 years of Normand W. Dooley, she was 85 years old.
Marlene was born in Rollinsford, New Hampshire and was raised and educated in Waltham. She was the daughter of the late Philip and Mary Cincotta and was one of 18 children. At the age of 16 her mom took ill and Marlene left school to care for her and to help raise and tend to her younger siblings. This would become a recurring theme in her life; the caring and nurturing of others.
Marlene and Normand met on a blind date and after eloping were married on May 9, 1954. In 1956 they moved to a new development on Sunset Drive in the small town of Burlington. They fell in love with this neighborhood of young families and ended up raising all four of their children there. In fact, the Dooley’s have lived there so long that Marlene was considered the “Matriarch of Sunset Drive”.
The Dooley family enjoyed summer vacations together in New Hampshire, Cape Cod and Marlene’s most favorite destination, York Beach in Maine. During their retirement years Marlene and Normand would often spend time at their winter place in New Port Richey, Florida. Marlene’s life was always centered around her home and her family. She maintained a meticulous household and she loved to cook and to host the family get-togethers at her home. As a mother she was protective of her children but set expectations for their behavior. Gardening was also a passion of hers and she would say that tending the soil and her plants made her feel closer to God and to nature. Marlene and Normand recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary and looked back on their marriage as one of mutual love, respect, forgiveness and perseverance. Marlene’s children, grandchildren and great grandson were the pride and joy of her life. Her kind spirit, love and dedication to her family will be something they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Marlene was the beloved wife of 64 years of Normand W. Loving mother of Kevin & his companion Denise Andreotes of Ashland, Andrea Moloney & her husband Peter of Billerica, Gregory of Burlington and Kathleen Roche & her husband Christopher of Westford. Proud grandmother of Jennifer Moorman, Heather, Sean & Scott Dooley; Taylor Moloney and Mackenzie, Hannah & Sydney Roche. Great Grandmother of Owen Moorman.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 10 St. Mark’s Road, Burlington on Tuesday, May 29 at 4:00 p.m. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marlene’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
