Obituary of Shawn T. Daly

Shawn Daly, a Director at Fidelity Investments, passed away from a sudden heart attack on Thursday, July 5, 2018. He was 42 years old. Shawn was born in Cambridge, the son of William and Deborah Daly. He was a member of Burlington High School’s Class of 1994 and was a member of the Varsity Soccer team. He furthered his education at University of Massachusetts graduating in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. While at UMASS he was a member of their club volleyball team which competed all around New England and beyond. Shawn spent his entire working career at Fidelity Investments. He started after graduating college as a Trader/ Registered Representative. Shawn’s advancement path within the company was accredited to his strong work ethic, ability to work with others, communication skills, and the ability to look at an issue or situation and see the correct path to resolve the situation. It also helped that his sunny personality, thoughtfulness, and humor helped make others feel at ease. He quickly moved up the ladder; Executive Offices Specialist, OSG Client Services Representative, Senior Risk Associate, Compliance Advisor, Senior Compliance Advisor, Senior Risk Manager, and in 2016 became a Director of Risk Oversight. He loved the challenges his career provided, the fast paced work environment, the critical and sophisticated analysis and decision making, and the lasting friendships within the Fidelity family. He had evolved within Fidelity as a leader, talented manager, and someone who could always get the job done well and in a timely manner. Outside of his career, Shawn’s life revolved around sports and his family. Shawn had a competitive spirit his entire life. It started when he was young when he played youth sports, like soccer and baseball. As a teenager, he won two gold medals in ping pong at the Bay State Games. He played volley ball in college. He enjoyed fresh and saltwater fishing since he was a child. During his adult years, he was an avid golfer. He was a loyal fan of all Boston’s sports teams. Many of his vacations included visiting Major League Ball Parks. He also enjoyed competing with his friends in their fantasy football and baseball leagues. He always had a strong bond with his family. With his father’s passing at a young age, his mom was his strong role model and someone who was always there to encourage, support, and guide him over his lifetime. He was the big brother to Brandon and Elyse. There are so many memories, events, and stories they have shared together over the years especially at the family summer home in Dennis Port. Shawn’s passing at such a young age is so difficult to accept, but there was no doubt of the love he had for his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all his family, friends, and coworkers.
