Obituary of Joan E. Jenkins
Jenkins, Joan Elizabeth (Page) of Stoneham, MA, formerly of Harvard, MA, passed away on July 22, 2018 at the age of 81.
Curious, smart, and creative, Joan lived her life as an artist, obtaining a degree in fine arts from UMass Lowell. She was skilled in many different mediums including painting, ceramics, and textiles, but also was a lifelong musician, teaching family members and others in the community how to play the piano and guitar. When she wasn’t creating something, Joan’s nose was always in a book or magazine. She was an avid reader and loved The New Yorker, often clipping out the cartoons and pinning them up around her house, as their humor was always in line with her own. A majority of her time was spent reading and keeping up with the news. Strong willed and outspoken, she frequently made her political opinions known. Her moral compass was always pointed in the right direction; she cared deeply for individuals in need and always tried to help the less fortunate however she could. She’s well known in her community for donating beautiful portraits and other pieces of art for different causes.
Rescuing abused animals was another one of Joan’s passions. She highly respected the innocence that animals possess and devoted a lot of her life to theirs, taking in dogs from out of state who needed to be nursed back to health from malnutrition and mistreatment. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Joan’s name may be made to an animal rescue organization that she supported:
