Obituary of Louise G Romagna

Louise G. Romagna, a woman who embraced life, loved her family and friends and always made those around her smile, passed away after an extended illness on Tuesday morning, August 7, 2018 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. She was 95 years old. Born in Chelsea, she was one of 5 daughters of Carlo and Lizzie Colucci, both of whom were Italian immigrants. She grew up in Cambridge and Somerville and attended Somerville High School. Her home was steeped in Italian culture, traditions, values, and food. She was brought up to believe that an individual’s family was the center of the universe. Louise and her sisters were best friends as children, teenagers and adults. As each married, their husbands happily assimilated into their world. Their circle of eight raised their children together, socialized, traveled, and supported each other throughout their entire lives. One of Louise’s greatest traits was her warm and welcoming personality. She was often laughing, singing, or dancing as she went about her tasks. The sweet aromas from her kitchen filled her home as she cooked her much-loved sauces, spinach pizza, eggplant Parmesan, stuffed artichokes, and countless other Italian dishes that she learned to cook from her mother. There was always time to enjoy a meal or a cup of coffee and talk family, activities, or any other subject matter from world events to the best shopping deals. She loved her neighborhood in Cambridge where she raised her 3 children. The neighborhood mothers formed a sort of social club. They were entertaining, supportive, fun, and always there to lend a helping hand or pass on some motherly advice. Louise met her husband Peter when they were teenagers. They married in 1945 when Peter was still serving in the Army and shared 67 blissful years together. As a mother, there was nothing she would not do for her children. She supported them in their life choices, education, and every aspect of their lives. Louise and Peter watched all 5 of their grandchildren as their parents pursued their careers. In her eyes, her grandchildren not only could do no wrong, but they were also the most beautiful, handsome, and smartest kids around. They were her pride and joy. When she died, she was only months away from becoming a great grandmother for the first time. She brought her family up well, and, when the “Golden Years” became a bit more challenging for her, her entire family rallied to ease her way. Louise’s influence and memory will continue in her family for generations. Louise was the beloved wife of the late Peter Romagna. She was the loving mother of Andrea McCarthy & her husband Frank of Lexington, Gary Romagna & his wife Connie of Burlington and the late Robert Romagna. She was the proud grandmother of Christopher Romagna & his wife Jaclyn, Peter, Gregory & Daniel Romagna and Lia Terenzi & her husband Tom. She was the sister of Helen Consolazio of Burlington and her late husband, George, the late Vera & Carl Pellecchia, Edna & Phil Luongo & Mary Christopher. She was also the beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St. BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Friday, Aug. 10 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Interment in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
