My dear cousin Joe was like an older brother to me.
We grew up at 17 Mayberry Ave. He was on the top floor and I was a little girl on the 2nd floor below. He was already a teenager when I knew him. I remember his deep resonant voice always saying "Hello Marie." Then he would lift me up above his head and throw me in the air to the horror of my mother! I loved it!
I remember admiring him in his military uniform when he came home to visit. He told tales of the other "guys" he met and what friendships he made.
We all were so happy when Janice came along as his fiance. Her picture was proudly displayed on the top of Auntie Frances' television in the center of the living room. We all thought she was the most beautiful young woman we had ever seen. We were not surprised though because Joe was a wonderful personality and handsome as well.
Sometime after they were married, Joe and Janice moved to Burlington, MA. To me being so young and not having ever been out of Medford, Burlington was the great unknown - far far away in a strange land. When our family visited them, I remember their beautiful new home with a huge new item - a picture window - which was at that time - never found in Medford! :-)
Joe gave our family love and acceptance as well as a huge smile all his life. What more could we ask for?
Joe, I look forward to our meeting again in the next life in God's great heaven.
Love always,
Cousin Marie
