Obituary of James McDonough

James H. McDonough, retired Getty Oil employee, passed away after a long illness at the Woodbriar of Wilmington Nursing Care Facility on Saturday morning, September 29, 2007. He was 94 years old. Jim was born in Revere, the son of the late Frederick and Helena McDonough. He grew up and was educated in Revere. Throughout his life, he always considered himself a Revere “Townie.” He was a long time resident and had worked for Getty in Revere and had even once managed an ice cream parlor on Revere Beach. Jim had worked for Getty Oil for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor. Jim had a long and fulfilling life surrounded by his family and friends. He had a strong work ethic and often worked two jobs to provide for his family. He always supported his children in their activities and interests. It gave him great joy have 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and to be a part of their lives. He enjoyed following high school sports and current events. He played golf and pool. He was an avid Red Sox fan. He wintered in Florida for 20 years and Red Sox spring training was always a part of his vacation highlights. He was a member of the Revere Knights of Columbus for almost 70 years. He will be fondly remembered by all. Jim was the loving husband of the late Pauline (Nutile) McDonough. He was the loving father of Jane & her husband Charles Tegan of Easton, formerly of Mansfield, William McDonough & his wife Joanne of Burlington, and James “Bud” McDonough & his wife Barbara of Burlington. He was the brother of the late Florence Donald and Frederick McDonough. He was also survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St. at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Jim’s name may be made to Carroll Center for the Blind, 770 Centre St., Newton, MA 02458 www.carroll.org
