Obituary of Alexander Wright

Alexander K. Wright, a resident of Burlington for 54 years passed away after a long illness at the Walden Rehabilitation Center in Concord on Wednesday night, January 9, 2008. He was 80 years old. He was born in Lexington, the son of the late William and Mary Wright. He grew up and was educated in Lexington. In WWII he served as a Gunner’s Mate Third Class on the USS LST 929, USS Sierra, and USS Mansfield. After serving the Navy for 4 years, he was honorably discharged in November of 1948 and was the recipient of the WW II Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic - Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was very proud to have served his country. Mr. Wright worked hard to provide for his wife and children. He worked for 25 years at Itek in Wilmington as an Environmental Test Technician building cameras for the NASA space program. He later worked as a truck driver for the Teamsters, Local 25 for 20 years. He had many friends with the Teamsters and continued to keep in touch with them long after he retired. He enjoyed working in his garden and bird watching. When he was younger he also enjoyed cruising on his motorcycle. Mr. Wright was the husband of Lucille “Dolly” (Lomano) Wright of Burlington. He was the proud and supportive father of Robert Wright & his companion Judy Barrett of Reading, Steven Wright of Carlisle, Richard Wright & his wife Lianne of Milford, NH, and MaryLu & her husband John DelPozzo of Chelmsford. He was the loving grandfather of Nicholas & Matthew DelPozzo and Tessa Wright. He was the brother of Jean Wright and Martha Oulette both of Lexington, John Wright of Uxbridge, and the late Margaret Wright. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. A memorial wake will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Sunday, Jan. 13 from 2 - 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Funeral services will be private. Memorials in Alexander’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
