Obituary of Rachel Mellone
Rachel S. (Barba) Mellone, a resident of Burlington since 1969, passed away at the Gold Living Center of Lexington, on Monday morning, January 21, 2008. The wife of the late Vincent Mellone, she was 101 years old.
Mrs. Mellone was born in Wakefield. She was the daughter of Italian immigrants the late Raymond and Rachel Barba. She was raised and educated in Needham and Somerville. She had resided in Allston for 33 years before settling in Burlington. Mrs. Mellone was a woman of strong faith and family values. She devoted her life to creating a loving home for her husband and five children. She loved to cook. Sunday and holiday dinners were always special at the Mellone home. Her homemade casseroles and ravioli were a few of her most prized dishes. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Her husband Vincent owned Vincent’s Variety Store in Allston and Rachel would work with him at the store. She enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, and sewing. In Allston, she was a member of the Ladies Sodality and the Women’s Club. In Burlington, she was a member of the Burlington Senior Citizens and the Burlington Council on Aging. Mrs. Mellone was blessed to have a life that spanned 101 years filled with many special times spent with her family and friends. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Mrs. Mellone was the beloved wife of the late Vincent. She was the loving mother of Mel Mellone of Weymouth & his late wife Ellen, Mary & her husband John Flynn of Burlington, Raymond & his wife Barbara of Allston, Father Vincent Mellone, Pastor St. Barbara’s Church, Woburn, Jeanne Maloof of Billerica & her late husband Stephen. She was the sister of the late Mary Ciano, James, Louis & Raymond Barba. She was also survived by 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren & one great great grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Barbara’s Church, Woburn on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held in St. Barbara’s Church, Woburn, on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. Prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham. Memorials in Rachel’s name may be made to St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, MA 01801. F
