Obituary of Gordon Watkins

Gordon S. Watkins, a resident of Reading for 56 years, passed away in the Winchester Hospital on Sunday afternoon, January 27, 2008. The beloved husband of Mary (DeFilippo), he was 83 years old. Mr. Watkins was born in Boston. He was raised and educated in North Reading. He was the son of the late Raymond and Marion Watkins. Mr. Watkins was a Veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Navy. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medical, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal – 1 Star, European African Middle Eastern Theater Medal – 1 Star, and the Good Conduct Medal. He worked as a Steam Engineer at Atlantic Gelatin in Woburn. He huge sports fan. He enjoyed gardening and he was well adept at growing roses. He also enjoyed working around his yard. Mr. Watkins was the beloved husband of Mary (DeFilippo) Watkins. He was the brother of Stewart Watkins of Lowell and the late Herbert Watkins. He was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, sister and brother-in-laws. A visiting hour will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment will be private. In lieu of lowers, memorials in Gordon’s name may be made to a charity of one’s own choice.
