Obituary of William Gordon

William R. Gordon, a resident of Burlington for 54 years, passed away at his home on Monday morning, February 4, 2008. The husband of June S. (Haraden) he was 80 years old. Bill was born in Medford, the son of the late Chester and Dora Gordon. He was raised and educated in Woburn graduating from Woburn High School in 1945. Bill then went on to further his education attending MIT and graduating from Northeastern University. He then went on to have a successful career as a Mechanical and Optics Engineer. He worked at Honeywell Corp. in Lexington for 27 years. Bill worked on many government programs and was involved in the development of many patents. He did extensive work on optics engineering and the original heat seeking devices used in missiles and other military applications. Bill earned the title of “Master Bridge Player” in the game of Duplicate Bridge in which he competed all over the country. He also enjoyed a good game of cribbage. Bill enjoyed sailing. He was a member of the Jubilee Yacht Club, Beverly MA, and owned a 24ft sailboat named the “Here Today”. He shared mainly memorable boating seasons sailing on the North Shore with his family and friends. He was an avid reader. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Bill was the beloved husband of June S. (Haraden) Gordon. He was the loving father of Justin Gordon of Groveland, Kimberley Gordon of Pepperell, Jeff Gordon of Groton, and the late Sally Beebe (Gordon). He was the brother of Joan Brain of Glenville, PA, David Gordon of Wells, ME formerly of Billerica, and the late Robert Gordon. He was the proud grandfather of Christopher, Jaclyn, and Austin Gordon. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were private.
