Obituary of William McDonough

William T. McDonough age 77, passed away at Havasu Regional Medical Center in Arizona surrounded by his family on May 1, 2012. William was born on November 17, 1934 in Woburn to Joseph and Margaret McDonough, he was the loving husband of Barbara (Woods) McDonough, with whom he had celebrated 58 years of marriage in February . Bill, or “Red” as he was known to many of his family and friends, was a member of Operating Engineers Local 4 for 43 years, and former member of the executive board. He also worked as a part-time real estate agent for Century 21 in Chelmsford for many years. Bill and Barbara moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ after retirement in 2000, spending winters there and summers in Maine. Always a devoted member of the Catholic church, Bill served as a Eucharistic minister, Sunday school teacher and lector at St. Mary’s in Chelmsford, MA, Our Lady of the Lake, Lake Havasu City, AZ, and St. Mary’s in Wells, ME. His faith in God was strong and he passed that along to all of his family. As a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4978, Burlington, MA, Bill rose through the chairs to Grand Knight and District Deputy, and still enjoyed spending time with his fellow knights on return to Massachusetts during the summer. In addition to his wife Barbara, Bill is survived by his children William T. McDonough, Jr., and his wife Susan (Benoit) of Cave Creek, AZ and their children Benjamin and Katelyn, Julie Scali and her husband Peter of Las Vegas, NV and their children David Scali and Lori Markley, Joyce McDonough of Scottsdale, AZ and her children Christopher and Jessica Kulish, Barbara Ross and her husband Brad of Methuen, MA and their children Tyler and Allison, and Brenda Limperis and her husband Jim of Methuen, MA and their children Emma, Billy and Jenna. He also is survived by two great-grandchildren, Ayden and Ashlyn. Bill had a supportive family and is also survived by his brothers Joseph and his wife Judi of NC, John and his wife Colleen of Winchester, Gerard & his wife Reta of Woburn, Michael & his wife Marilyn of Woburn& his sister Ann of Conroe, TX. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by so many friends from MA and AZ. A Memorial Mass will be held in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn on Saturday, June 16 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt., 128, Woburn side) on Friday, June 15 from 4-8 p.m. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be private.
