Robert E. Zimmerman, a resident of Burlington for 49 years passed away at his home on Thursday morning, February 14, 2008. He was 84 years old. Bob was born in North Adams, MA, the son of the late Joseph and Frona Zimmerman. He grew up and was educated in Woburn. He served in the Navy during WW II on the USS Stevenson. He was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon with 6 Bronze Stars, American Area Medal, European African Middle Eastern Area Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. Bob was a past member of the American Legion, the Southern New Hampshire Snow Slickers, and the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association. He enjoyed vacationing at the family’s second home in Conway NH where he enjoyed to skimobile in the winters and the lake in the summers. He was a great neighbor who was always there to share his mechanical skills if a family member, friend or neighbor had a problem with a lawn mower, snow blower, or anything else. His backyard was the site of many family and neighborhood cookouts. He even built his own pool for his children and their friends to enjoy in the summers. He was an avid birdwatcher. But most of all he was a family person. He was a devoted husband, caring father, and a proud grandfather. He happily spent his retirement years watching his grandchildren grow up and being their number one fan in whatever activity or sport they participated in. He will be lovingly remembered. Bob was the husband of Winnifred (French) Zimmerman. He was the loving father of Robert E. Zimmerman & his wife Rachel of N. Reading, Leon Zimmerman of Barrington, NH & Burlington, and Lisa & her husband Lenny Rowe of Chelmsford. He was the brother of Joseph Zimmerman of CA, the late Lillian Grenier and Paul Zimmerman.
