Obituary of Mary Powers

Mary E. Powers, who recently celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary with her beloved husband William, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday night, June 3, 2012. She was 83 years old. Mary was born in Brighton, the daughter of the late Catherine and John Raymond Reddig. She grew up in North Cambridge and was a graduate of St. John’s High School. She worked at New England Telephone until she had children, and then became a fulltime homemaker and mother. She had been a resident of Burlington for 54 years and an active member of St. Malachy’s Church, where she was a member of the Morgairs. Mary’s life was focused on her home and her family. She was always there to care for, comfort, support and guide her children. Her family remembers all the road trips to Maine and New Hampshire shared together as well as the many family vacations spent at Hampton Beach. She loved hosting family gatherings and cookouts. She especially loved being a grandmother and great grandmother. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and was a faithful fan at their cheerleading events, softball, football, soccer, and hockey games. She was so proud of their accomplishments and did not let her disabilities prevent her from being a part of their lives. Mary was the beloved wife of 60 years of William W. Powers. She was the loving mother of William M. Powers & his wife Karen of Wellington, FL and Mary Ellen Santarpio & her husband Fred of Billerica. Mary was the sister of John Reddig of Tewksbury, Elizabeth Flannery of S. Hadley, and Frank D. Reddig of Burlington. Grandmother of Matthew, Kevin and Ryan Powers and William, Katie & Kerrie Santarpio. Also survived by 6 great grandsons. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, June 7 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
