Obituary of Roger Grenier
Roger R. Grenier, retired Technical Director for the Patriot Missile Program at Raytheon, passed away after a long illness at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Saturday morning, March 22, 2008. He was 74 years old. Roger was born in Salem, the son of the late Alfred and Irene Grenier. He grew up in Salem. He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in Salem. He proudly served in the Air Force for 4 years during the Korean War. He held the rank of Airman First Class and was a member of the 23 Bombardment Squadron. He served as an aircraft mechanic and engine mechanic for the B36 Bombers. He was the recipient the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
After the military he went to work at Raytheon. While working, he strove to improve himself. He went to night school to earn his Associates Degree from Lowell Technical Institute in 1963 and his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Engineering from Northeastern University in 1968. During his 36 years at Raytheon he worked on the Sparrow, Hawk, and Polaris Missile Programs. He worked on the Apollo Guidance Computer as Raytheon’s Resident Engineer at M.I.T.. He also worked on the Air Traffic Control Program and Cruise Missile Program. He ended his career at Raytheon as the Technical Director of the Patriot Missile Program. He enjoyed his career as well as his many coworkers.
Roger enjoyed playing golf and puttering around his home during his retirement years. He also liked to travel and read. He had many “Good Friends”, whom he enjoyed spending time with. He was a devoted and loving husband of 44 years to his wife Anne. He adored his daughter and granddaughter and they gave his life great joy.
Roger was the beloved husband of Anne M. (Bloom) Grenier. He was the loving father of Suzanne Grenier of Burlington and devoted grandfather of Maryanne. One brother and three sisters predeceased him.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Wednesday, March 26 at 8:45 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 9:45 a.m. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
