Obituary of Eileene Lyons

Eileene “Elaine” T. (Weymouth) Lyons, a woman who opened her home to those in need, passed away at the Winchester Nursing Center on Saturday morning, April 26, 2008. The wife of the late Joseph Lyons, she was 91 years old. Eileene was born in Boston. She was raised and educated in Cambridge. She was the oldest of seven children born to the late Mary J. (Collins) and Daniel M. Weymouth. Eileene and her husband Joseph had wonderful hearts. They opened their home throughout the years to over 70 foster children from Catholic Charities and a Jewish agency. Eileene and Joseph provided these children, some of which had physical and emotional handicaps, with a stable influence in their lives. Some stayed with them for several days and others stayed for years. Eileene had also worked as a Tax Clerk for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She was an active member of St. James Parish in Medford where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and served as a Eucharistic Minster. Eileene also enjoyed Square Dancing with Mystic Stars. She will be lovingly remembered for her kindness and compassion for others. Eileene was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Lyons. She was the loving mother of Joseph Lyons, Jr. & his wife Angela of Woburn, Daniel R. Lyons of Revere & the late Patricia Murphy, Randy Lembo & his wife Marilyn of Methuen, and the late William “Buddy” Lyons. She was the sister of the late Leroy, George, Daniel, & Lawrence Weymouth, Elizabeth Ray & Gladys Smith. She was the proud grandmother of Danielle Lyons of Revere, Denise Lyons Frost of Tewksbury, Joseph Lyons, III of Auburn and great grandmother of Matthew, Haley, Jenna, Isabelle, Lucas, & Sydney. She was also survived by many foster children. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, April 29 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Cambridge Cemetery. Memorials in Eileene’s name may be made to Winchester Nursing Center, Patient Activity Fund, 223 Swanton Street, Winchester, MA 01890.
