George M. Donabed, a longtime resident of Burlington, passed away on Monday evening, May 5, 2008. George wasa the husband of the late Katherine “Kay” (Bahadurian). George was born in Worcester. He was the son of Turkish immigrants the late Malke and Margaret Donabed. George was raised and educated in Cambridge. He was a graduate of Rindge Technical High School where he excelled at sports. At Rindge Technical School he obtained the skills and foundation to become an excellent mechanic and machinist. George married his wife Kay and they lived in Arlington for many years until moving to Burlington. George went to work as a machinist at the Boston Naval Shipyard. He worked at the shipyard until it closed its doors. He was a special leading man while working at the shipyard and received the “Recognition of Service Award” from the U.S. Navy for “essential wartime work” and “service to the Navy and to the Country.” George joined the Cambridge Auxiliary Police Department where he worked in addition to the shipyard. He became a Sergeant and then achieved the rank of Captain. He served the Cambridge Auxiliary Police Dept. many years. He took great pride in his service to the community and country. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time at the Burlington Council on Aging, with his wife and friends. George was the beloved husband of the late Katherine “Kay” (Bahadurian) Donabed, who passed away in August of 2007. He was the loving father of Nancy Javian of Burlington and Katherine “Kathy” Schill & her husband Robert of Burlington. Twin brother of the late Mary Kevorkian and brother of the late Rose and Sargun Donabed. He was the proud grandfather of Lori Morad & her husband Stephen of Wilmington, Kimberly Javian and Robert Schill both of Burlington and great grandfather of Nicholas and Jonathan Morad. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, May 9 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 6-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
