Obituary of Walter Feeney

Walter P. Feeney, a resident of Burlington for 50 years, passed away at his home on Wednesday morning, May 7, 2008. The husband Florence I. (Carter), he was 85 years old. Walter was born in Saco, Maine. He was the son of the late John and Mary Feeney. He was raised and educated in Alston and Brighton. Walter was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Army Air Corp where he achieved the rank of Corporal. He participated in the battles of Normandy and France as well as the Battle of the Ardennes, which later became known as the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and European Theatre Campaign Ribbon with 6 Battle Stars. Walter had a tremendous work ethic. He went to work at an early age to help support his family. He had a very successful career working as a Grocery Manager for the First National Stores. He worked for the chain for over 30 years and was stationed at many different locations. Walter enjoyed watching sports most especially baseball and also enjoyed a good game of cribbage. He loved to listen to Irish Music. Walter’s family was very important to him. He was a devoted “Bumpa” to all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Walter was the beloved husband of 66 years of Florence I. (Carter) Feeney. He was the loving father of Beverley Jones & her husband Thomas of Tewksbury, Janice Heintz & her husband Fred of Weare, NH, Archie Feeney of Burlington, Kathy Pace of Mason NH, James & his wife Susan of Sarasota, FL, Joseph & his wife Roxanne of Clinton, CT. He was the brother of Eleanor Burke of NJ, and the late Dorothy Hannaford, Donald, Paul & Rev. John J. Feeney. Walter was also survived by 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was the father-in-law of the late Joanne E. Feeney and Dominic Pace. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, May 12 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 4-7 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
