Obituary of Kevin Murphy
John “Kevin” Murphy, a co-owner of J. E. Murphy Company Incorporated passed away after a year-long battle with cancer on Wednesday, June 13, 2012. He was 54 years old.
Kevin was born in Boston. He grew up in Burlington and was a graduate of Austin Prep. High School, Class of 1975. He then went on to attend Bentley College. Kevin began working in the family business even before he could drive. He learned from his father how to operate heavy equipment, run a business, and how to treat your customers as if they were your friends. He worked with his father and brother Mark up until his passing. They performed heavy construction earthwork, excavation, drainage, and snowplowing all around Burlington and the surrounding towns. They all had a common purpose and bond. Kevin’s priorities were family, friendships and work. He and his wife Lynne celebrated their 24th anniversary this past January. He was extremely proud of his children and their accomplishments. Kevin was simply a good friend to everyone. His sense of humor and quick wit made him a delight to be around. He brought laughter to any conversation he was involved in. He just enjoyed being social, whether it was on the golf course, watching a game with friends, or catching up with a client or friend, Kevin always made time for others. During his illness, his concern was more for his wife and children, rather than his own well being. Over the past year, his strength and bravery has been an inspiration for all. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
Kevin was the beloved husband of Lynne M. (Doherty) of Wilmington. He was the loving father of Meaghan and Julie Murphy of Wilmington. He was the son of John E. of Burlington and the late Jane. He was the brother of Thomas & his wife Robin of Wareham and Mark of Burlington. He was the son-in-law of John and Eleanor Doherty of Woburn and brother in-law of Darlene Doherty of Woburn, Jake and Janet Doherty of Maine, Laurel and Dave LaBonte of Maine.
