Obituary of John White
John J. White, a resident of Burlington for over 55 years, passed away at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford on Monday, May 12, 2008. The husband of the late Rita (Dennehy), he was 93 years old.
John was born in Boston. He was the son of the late Michael P. & Catherine (Kiley). He was raised and educated in Medford. John and his wife Rita lived for a period of time in Somerville before moving to Burlington in 1953. John worked for Boston Gas for over 35 years as a compressor operator. He was a talented woodworker and could make anything from a small nick knack to a toy chest. He also enjoyed reading, watching football, and his electric trains. John’s family was most important to him and he was blessed to have a life that spanned 93 years filled with many happy memories and events spent with his late with Rita, his children, grandchildren and his great grandchildren.
John is the beloved husband of the late Rita (Dennehy). He is he loving father of John M. White & his wife Patricia of Dennisport formerly of Boxborough, Jean M. Wilkie & her husband Bob of Hudson, NH formerly of Westford, and Mary E. Weller & her husband Don of Maysville, KY. He is the brother of the late Catherine Donahue, Leonard, Francis “Bud” and Thomas White. He is the grandfather of Stephen, Michael & Eric White, Dana Marie Cameron, Lynne & Rob Wilkie, Kathleen Palmer, Kelli Begley, & Meghan Weller. Also survived by 13 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, May 15 from 9 – 11 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 11:30 a.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
