Obituary of Donna Doherty

Donna M. (Donovan) Doherty passed away, at the age of 50, at her family’s home in Burlington after a courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday evening, September 3, 2008. She was the loving wife of 14 years of Kevin A. Doherty. Donna was born in Woburn. She was the daughter of Elsie (Johnson) Donovan and the late Francis Donovan. She was raised and educated in Burlington graduating from Burlington High in 1976. Donna worked as an administrative assistant for the past nine years at the Cleaning Services Group in Danvers. She enjoyed working with her coworkers. Donna and her husband Kevin moved to Rockport 15 years ago and have enjoyed the way of life of a waterfront community. They enjoyed their home and neighbors. She appreciated music and loved animals. Donna enjoyed going to Foxwoods and taking long rides to New Hampshire and Maine. Donna’s family was the most important part of her life. She was a loving wife, a devoted daughter, a wonderful sister, and was like an adopted mother to her many nieces and nephews. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. Some described Donna as “generous to a fault.” Donna will be lovingly remembered as a giving and caring woman. She will be deeply missed. Donna was the beloved wife of Kevin A. Doherty of Rockport. She was the devoted daughter of Elsie (Johnson) Donovan of Burlington and the late Francis Donovan. She was the loving sister of Dennis Donovan & his wife Carol of Pensacola, FL, Paul Donovan & his wife Chris of Billerica, Karen Rigazio & her husband Mike of Somerville Sharon Icovitti & her husband Tom of Orlando, FL, Shirley Dupras & her husband Robert of Hudson, NH, Mary Donovan of Lowell, and Sherri McCann & her husband Ray of Dracut. She was the daughter-in-law of the late Anna Doherty and sister-in-law of Lauretta & Kevin Vollmar , Diane & Ralph Coffill , John “Jack” Doherty all of Woburn, and the late Alfred and Edward Doherty. She was also survived by her many cherished nieces, nephews, and good friends. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, Sept. 8 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers memorials in Donna’s name may be made to the MSPCA, Attn: Donations, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
