Obituary of Joseph Hurley

Joseph P. Hurley, a lifelong resident of Burlington, passed away at the Wilmington Nursing Center on Tuesday morning, Sept. 16, 2008. He was 69 years old. Joe was born in Boston. He was raised and educated in Burlington. He was the son of the late Daniel J. and Grace Hurley. Joe was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving his country in the United States Navy. He was the recipient of the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He had a successful career at RCA where he worked as a Blue Printer. Joe had a number of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed collecting new and unique items. He loved to sing and dance. He was avid fan of country music most especially John Hicks. Joe was a Past President of the John Hicks Fan Club. He went to many John Hicks concerts and was fortunate to attend a concert just three weeks ago. Joe enjoyed camping. His favorite camping location was in the Western part of the state. He loved to travel and traveled extensively throughout the United States by car. He enjoyed spending time with his family and always looked forward to his Sunday dinners with his son Jim and daughter-in-law Janet. They dinned together as recently as this past Sunday. Joe is the beloved husband of the late Phyllis (Lamb). He is the loving father of James & his wife Janet of Burlington and the late Joseph P. Hurley, Jr. He is the brother of Daniel J. Hurley, Jr. of Wilmington, John “Jackie” Hurley of FL, and the late Sister William Julie Hurley (Peggy), Billy, Ranny and Jimmy Hurley. Grandfather of Tommi and James Jr. He is the honorary father of Keith Chadbourne and honorary grandfather of Christopher John Chadbourne. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, Sept. 19 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
