Obituary of Richard Finch

Richard “Dick” Finch passed away at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading on Saturday morning, September 20, 2008. He was 74 years old. Dick was born in Boston, the son of the late Jonathan and Helen Finch. He grew up and was educated in Somerville. He was a veterna of the Korean War serving his country in the United States Army for three years. Dick was a talented carpenter. He had own his own contracting company, which specialized in siding, windows, and roofing. He had also worked for a number of years as a carpenter for Cummings Properties. Dick loved the ocean, fishing and boating. He was a long time member of the Newton Yacht Club and had served the yacht club as Commodore. He loved boats and his pride was a 45-foot yacht that had been previously owned by Cardinal Cushing. In his later years he enjoyed to travel and going on cruises. He did not let his illness stop him from doing what he loved. This past May, he went on his last cruise and only a week ago he was still fishing. Dick is survived by his loving companion, Germaine Downer of Burlington. He was the father of Nancy Jones of Groton, Jonathan Finch of Worcester, Helen Finch of Atkinson, NH, Hope Masse of Beverly, Richard Finch, Jr. of Derry, NH, Dawn Marie Mistler of Worcester, and Hope Ceurvels of Myrtle Beach, SC. Brother of John Finch of Pelham, NH, Margaret Butler of Burlington, and Steven Finch of Groton. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON, (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
