Obituary of William Fahey
William M. Fahey, a patron of Burlington Sports, passed away suddenly at his home on Friday afternoon, September 19, 2008. He was 73 years old.
Bill was born in Arlington, the son of the late Martin and Frances Fahey. He grew up and was educated in Arlington, where he excelled in athletics. He served in the Army during the Korean War, where he received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was retired from the Arlington School Department, where he worked as a custodian at the high school. He shared his knowledge of sports, especially hockey, as a long time coach for Burlington Youth Hockey Association. He taught the young athletes the skills of the game and more importantly, good sportsmanship. He was a supporter of Burlington athletics long after his children had grown up. In his later years, he enjoyed following his grandchildren’s activities and in his quiet way, was their number one fan. He enjoyed summering in Ogunquit, Maine with his family. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who taught by example. He was a good friend to many and will be fondly remembered for his contributions to the community.
Bill was the beloved husband of late Catherine “Kay” (McCarthy). Loving father of Jack & his wife Cathy of Burlington, Maura Mazzocca and her husband Paul of Burlington, Thomas and his wife Lisa of Alpharetta, GA, and the late Daniel. He was the father–in-law of Myrtha Fahey of Methuen. He was the brother of Rosemarie Conlin of Burlington and the late Mary Wood. He was the brother-in-law of Michael McCarthy of Derry, NH. He was the proud grandfather of Amanda, Michael, & Jessica Fahey of Burlington, Zack Mazzocca of Burlington, Matthew, Molly, & Kevin Fahey of Methuen, Lexy & Tory Fahey of Alpharetta, GA, and the late Mycala Fahey. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Graveside services will be held at the Pine Haven Cemetery, Bedford St., Burlington, on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 12:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill’s name may be made to the Dan Fahey Foundation, c/o Century Bank, 134 Cambridge St., Burlington, MA 01803.
