Obituary of Andrew Murphy
Andrew Murphy, a retired supervisor, passed suddenly at his home on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. He was 83 years old. Andrew was born in Worcester, the son of Canadian immigrants, the late Leo and Anne Murphy. He grew up in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. He joined the Marines 5 days before his 18th birthday to fight in W II. He served for 3 years until the end of the War and had been stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. He was proud of his service to his country and to have been a Marine.
Andrew had worked for over 20 years as a supervisor for Amstar Corporation, which had taken over his previous employer, Domino Sugar. His interests included ballroom dancing, camping, and traveling. In his retirement years, he enjoyed wintering in the Gulf Coast of Florida. He was a proud man who worked hard to provide for his family.
Andrew was the beloved husband of Madeline (Rupprecht). Loving father of Joan Nazzaro & her husband Gregory of Wakefield, Nancy Ober & her husband Dan of Grafton, Daniel & his wife Nancy of Reading, and Patricia Banks & her husband John of Wilmington. Brother of Marguerite Sullivan of Everett, Christine Jacques of FL, Richard Murphy of Billerica, William Murphy of FL, the late Irene Shea, Claire Fleming, Raymond, Edward, and Leo Murphy. Grandfather of Jennifer & Laura Nazzaro, Rebecca & Paul Ober, Brendan & Ryan Murphy.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
