Obituary of Henry Papalegis

Henry F. Papalegis passed away suddenly on Monday afternoon, June 25, 2012. He was 82 years old. Henry was born and raised in Cambridge. He was one of five children born to the late Adam and Julia Papalegis. Henry was a veteran of the Korean War serving his country in the United States Navy. He was stationed on the USS Damato. Henry was proud of his service to his country and gathered with other Veterans who were stationed on the USS Damato for reunions throughout the years. He was also a member of the Tin Can Sailors – The National Association of Destroyer Vessels. Henry was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. He went on to have a career with New England Telephone Company for 37 years working as a Repair Technician. Henry led a very full and active life. When his children where young he was a Cub Scout Leader. He was a member of the Arlington Retired Men’s Club. Henry enjoyed bowling and was a member of bowling leagues throughout the years. He also enjoyed polka dancing. He was a talented craftsman and did wood working around his home. Henry was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Burlington both 3 & 4th Degree. Henry and Anna enjoyed taking cruises through the Caribbean and had also traveled throughout Europe and Africa. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He loved being a grandpa and spending time with his three grandchildren. Henry was the beloved husband of 56 years of Anna (Klemas). He was the loving father of Edward of Melrose, Andrew of Haverhill and Christine Prestia & her husband Carl of Groton. Brother of Walter of Peabody and the late Frank, Marie McGee & Helen Buckley. He was a grandfather of 3. A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Sat. June 30 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers memorials in Henry’s name may be made to the Knights of Columbus Exceptional Children’s Fund, PO Box 25, Burlington, MA 01803.
