Obituary of Kathleen Stryke
Kathleen O. Stryke, a retired nurse, passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease, on Wednesday morning, November 5, 2008 at the Woburn Nursing Center. She was 82 years old. Kathleen was born in Somerville the daughter of the late Patrick and Evelyn O’Malley. She grew up in Winchester and was a graduate of Winchester High School. She married her husband, Arthur, 61 years ago and they started their life together in Burlington. They had 5 children and Kathleen was a stay at home mother. When the last of her 5 children went off to school, she went back to school at the Tewksbury School of Nursing. She earned her LPN and worked at the Winchester Hospital in numerous departments for over 20 years. She found nursing to be a very rewarding career and it gave her great comfort to help those in need.
Kathleen had a number of interests. She was a passionate reader and a regular patron at the Burlington Public Library. She enjoyed traveling and especially liked cruises to warm destinations. She loved her family and was blessed to be apart of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives. She will be lovingly remembered by her many family and friends.
Kathleen was the beloved wife of Arthur K. Stryke of Burlington. She was the loving mother of Kevin Stryke of Lowell, Lynda Connolly of Marshfield, William Stryke & his wife Ruthie of Burlington, Theresa Fritscher & her husband Jim of Billerica, and Patricia Buscemi & her husband Mark of Billerica. She was the sister of Patricia O’Malley of NH, Maryann Campbell of NH, Eileen Ralske of Acton, and the late Robert O’Malley. She was the proud grandmother of Lesley Smith, Christopher Buscemi, Kayleen Buscemi, Jessica Fritscher, and Edward Fritscher and great grandmother of Brendan & Dana Smith.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy’s Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. In Lieu of flowers, memorials in Kathleen’s name may be made to a charity of ones own choice or the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
